This week on the farm we also redid one of our raised beds that some boc choy was growing on. We first pulled out all the boc choy that was growing on this bed and composted it, we did this bed because of the lack of nutrients in the soil. You can tell there are a lack of nutrients in the soil by the way the boc choy is growing and how it looks.
The far left photo shows 2 beds, the left bed is the one with the stunted boc choy and the right bed has the beautiful deep green boc choy (what we want!)
The middle photo has an up close image of the stunted boc choy (we don't want this!)
And the far right photo has the beautiful boc choy that we want!
I remember planting both beds of boc choy, and we remebered that the stunted boc choy was planted in September while the luscious boc choy (on the right) was planted after that. Further concluding that there was just something wrong with the left bed.
So we took out half the soil and used it in our new composting area, and then refilled the bed with new compost. We hope the new compost has the right amount of nutrients so we don't encounter this problem in the future!
